Celebration Day 5th August 2011
After the euphoria of the National Village Cup, the spotlight fell on Mistley once again with the celebrations surrounding the opening of the pavilion extension. With “The MCC” providing the opposition there was plenty of Blood and Custard mingling with the Green and Gold of the hosts.
After the heavy rain of the previous day the sun shone brightly and the visitors batted first accumulating 243 runs by mid afternoon. Mistley reached the short tea break without loss and then despite losing wickets at regular intervals closed in on their target, judging their chase to perfection with the winning runs struck with two balls and one wicket to spare, much to the delight of the growing crowd who were enjoying the convivial atmosphere that such an event brings.
At the end of the match the Pavilion was officially opened by Christopher Martin Jenkins, MBE, President of the Marylebone Cricket Club, after which in the region of two hundred and fifty guests joined CMJ and speaker Don Topley for a Celebration Dinner.
